Have Your Say on Canada's First National Water Security Strategy
Rural water co-ops have an opportunity to help shape Canada's first National Water Security Strategy.
The Canada Water Agency is seeking input from people and organizations across the country as it develops a strategy to strengthen water security in Canada. The strategy will help identify priorities and actions related to safe, reliable water supplies, healthy freshwater systems, and challenges such as drought and flooding.
For rural water co-ops, this is an opportunity to ensure the realities of rural water systems are reflected in the conversation. Board members, operators, volunteers and the communities they serve have firsthand experience delivering safe water and managing local water infrastructure. Your perspectives can help inform future policies and priorities.
"Rural water co-ops understand the challenges and opportunities facing local water systems because they deal with them every day," said Chris Hancock, Executive Director, Water Federation. "This is an important opportunity for members to share their experience and help ensure rural voices are part of the discussion."
The Water Federation encourages members to participate and share their perspectives before the consultation period closes on October 25, 2026.
Members interested in participating can complete the National Water Security Strategy survey or provide written feedback directly to the Canada Water Agency at water-eau@cwa-aec.gc.ca.
